Shymbulak is a modern ski resort with 10 ski lifts, 25 kilometers of ski slopes, some of which are equipped with "snow cannons". Founded in 1954 as a training base for Soviet skiers, Shymbulak is the most famous destination in Central Asia for winter sports enthusiasts. Shymbulak is located at an altitude of 2,000 to almost 5,000 meters above sea level and is a natural habitat for unique plants and animals (including those listed in the Red Book).

is one of the most unique objects of nature. Under the influence of millennia of weathering processes of sedimentary rocks, the relief took the shape of isolated rocks, columns and towers. It is a natural monument, the age of which is about 12 million years.

The Charyn Canyon is located in the Charyn National Park about 215km east of Almaty. The Canyon has been described as the Grand Canyon’s little brother. This is not to detract from the sheer splendor of the canyon itself. The vista of dramatic erosion made by the river Charyn below and the elements has created a dramatic and impressive landscape. The Canyon itself is approximately 150 km long, and, in places up to 300 meters deep. One area of particular interest, is an area of 2km called the Valley of Castles, due to the pillars and rock formations forming imposing, almost manmade structures.

• KOLSAI LAKES

The “Pearl of the Tien Shan”, Kolsai Lakes, are located 300 km from Almaty, in the spurs of the Kungei-Alatau ridge. It is also called Kazakh Switzerland. These are three most beautiful mountain lakes surrounded by steep mountain slopes. The lakes are located at different heights and form a kind of cascade. The lower Kolsai Lake is located at an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level, the middle one is at an altitude of 2250 meters and the highest one is at an altitude of 2800 meters above sea level.
